Introducing myself....

Dear Parents and Students,

Hello! I hope everyone is enjoying their summer! I am looking forward to seeing everyone on the first day of school in my 6th,7th and 8th grade science classes. As a new teacher at the School of Saint Elizabeth, I would like to introduce myself and my expectations for the upcoming school year. My name is Mrs. Debra deLeon and I am originally from Shrewsbury, Massachusetts, where I taught Catholic school for 2 years before moving New Jersey. I am also a product of Catholic school myself from elementary school through college and are looking forward to meeting each and everyone of you!

I am very enthusiastic about the upcoming school year and have many wonderful things planned for the students. In the classroom, we are going to follow a Code or Mission of being RESPECTFUL, RESPONSIBLE and SAFE! If everyone tries to follow these three important rules, then our class environment will be a positive and great place to learn! The lessons throughout the school year, will be fun and inovative for everyone to enjoy! We will be doing numerous group projects and labs, Power Point Presentations as well as reading about the latest events happening in science today. Another important skill I would like to help the children have, is note-taking skills. This will not only get them to be successful in middle school but in high school as well. These skills will be used numerous times throughout the year. Please know, that if any students have any difficulty throughout the year, I will be here to provide as much extra help as I can.

So that parents say informed, I will be creating homework page at www.schoolnotes.com, where homework will be posted daily. Also, classroom announcements will be made here so that everyone gets the latest news. The students are also going to be creating a classroom newspaper that will be taken home weekly so that they may show their parents what they have accomplished.

Please enjoy the rest of the summer and I look forward to seeing you all soon!

Thank you!

Mrs. Debra deLeon

Hi Debra. I love that you created this blog introducing yourself to the students and teachers. The first day of school can be extremely scary but now the students and parents can feel more comfortable about their first day knowing how committed you are to helping them have a great year! I wish you and your students good luck with the school year!

Debra,

Great intro! I especially liked the way you let your students and parents know that you had attended Catholic schools yourself. This speaks volumes to parents about your commitment to Catholic education. I always mention that fact and the fact that my own children attend as well at Back to School Night.

Setting the your standards from the start is crucial and you did a nice job of it.

I hope you have a womderful year!

Barbara
